-Basic Care fo Chinchillas-

-Feeding of chinchillas.

To the being a basically herbivore animal, possesses a very developed blind intestine, with a complex intestinal flora whose delicate balance is essential for the good operation of the digestive apparatus.

An inadequate feeding can alter the gastrointestinal apparatus, causing this way the bacterial imbalance that is sometimes the main and decisive cause of enteritis that almost always has a sad outcome.

The chinchilla is coprófaga, this means that eats her own grounds. This behavior is completely natural that allows to the chinchilla it assimilates many nutritious elements that were not absorbed in the course of the digestion.

The appropriate foods for the chinchilla.

The chinchilla feeds mainly of vegetables and of fruit.

The foods but appropriate for their nutrition they can be classified in three groups:

- Dry foods: almonds, pumpkin pipes, the cashew, the hazelnuts, the peanuts, the sésamo seeds, the apricot, dry figs, etc...

The most common are the dry cheese, the yolk of the hard egg that you/they should be administered with certain prevention and moderation, since can cause serious digestive dysfunctions.

One also has to give special piensos for the chinchillas.

If in the diet they will have these foods, it won't be necessary to add vitamins or minerals. The chinchilla, on the contrary that the cavies doesn't need contribution some of vitamin C.

Inadequate foods.

There are some foods that cannot be given to the chinchillas, because they can be harmful. Those but currents are the candies of all type, as chocolate, candies, and ice creams. Neither the meats are adapted. The chinchilla doesn't usually eat up them, because he doesn't like them, but you/he/she is preferable not to run the risk.

The water.

The water is very important the the feeding of the chinchilla. The insufficient ingestion of water could predispose to the constipation, or to a state of harmful dehydration for ours mascot. The water always has to be at your disposal, and it is necessary to change it once as minimum a day.

As we have already said the water it was given by means of automatic dispensers, it consists on bottles placed face down and that they are held to the front part of the cage. They have a ball in their end that dilutes when being licked dispensation. Until they have the certainty that their mascots will know as using this dispensers, the best thing is to also give them the water in recipients.

If he/she has their chinchilla in the exterior, during the winter, the drops temperatures can freeze the ball and to make that it is hit so to the tube inside which is, it is important that it checks every day that this doesn't happen.
